Prior to completion, the open house and launch of the first 80 housing units in The Vistas at Runaway Bay housing project in St Ann occurred on Dec 18, 2016. Phase 1 involved two-bedroom units comprising 30 detached bungalows and 50 duplex townhouses that come with solar panels, solar water heater, and solar grid tier system.
Amenities include a clubhouse with a pool, gym, and hard court. There are plans to build a jogging trail and gazebo. 15 additional 3 bedroom bungalows were completed with the final unit handed over on October 7, 2020.
Belle Air Pen was a pimento estate in St. Ann acquired by John Blagrove at some point before 1793, possibly at the same time as Pear Tree Bottom (JA1754). Labour was provided by enslaved people. In 1832, the plantation was in possession of William Miller, Attorney to the Executors and Trustees of John Blagrove.
Runaway Bay is a town is St. Ann on the northern coast of Jamaica and is considered one of the most naturally beautiful places on the island. It is a notable tourist destination located 25 km west of Ocho Rios and slightly east of Discovery Bay, where Christopher Columbus landed in 1494.
The name derives from it being an escape route for runaway slaves. Arawak were the first native settlers but was overpowered by the Spanish colonizers. The British captured Jamaica from the Spaniards in 1655 and it remained under their rule until August 5, 1962.
Reef areas such as the Canyon and Ricky’s REEF can be visited through organized dives and its offshore diving and snorkeling opportunities are said to be the best in Jamaica.
